Asked what their favourite French songs are, the teachers at the Alliance Française de Pretoria provided a number of songs that they enjoy listening to. This playlist is an expansive mix, with oldies and contemporary music for you to enjoy!

Sitting at little bistro, or café, at a small table covered with a square white tablecloth, watching the people meander by on the streets of Paris, you are bound to have heard these charming tunes playing, while sipping on a café serré

French rock acts emerged at the end of the decade and in the beginning of the 1960s, with Johnny Hallyday achieving the most long-lasting success, while other acts like Les Chaussettes noires, led by other French rock star Eddy Mitchell, and Les Chats sauvages (led by Dick Rivers) contributed to the emergence of the genre, the last band writing the first real classic French rock song, Twist à Saint-Tropez.

Jazz music has been popular in France since the 1920s. Its international popularity peaked in the 1930s, and it has been continually enjoyed since.

For all of you who like something a little more "hard core" and feel they need to listen to something a little more metal... but it must still be French... well, we came up with this little list! Enjoy!
