Francophonie Festival 2020

The Festival de la Francophonie 2020, which took place at Crawford Schools Pretoria, opened on the 7th March, and saw over 5000 people enjoy the incredible sights, sounds, food, and colours, of around 30 different Francophone Embassies and International Organisations, as they presented the best of what their countries had to show. Organising wonderful concerts, exhibition spaces, and food stalls, which everyone could enjoy for free.

The Alliance Française Pretoria is always proud to form part of this amazing event. Having taken part, and helped organise, for the better part of 13 years. Each year it gets bigger, more popular, and more vibrant, bringing with it many changes in the format. Having started at the Alliance Française Pretoria, on 99 Rivier Street Sunnyside, it grew to a point where our humble venue became far too small to accommodate the ever increasing number of guests and participants, and is the driving reason why we moved this event into schools around Pretoria.

The event has seen the likes of Johnny Clegg (having opened the event in French even), Maps Maponyane, Flip van Merwe, and a variety other celebrities grace the event.

The Festival de la Francophonie is a wonderful show of cultural exchange that is utterly unbeatable, and is an event that encapsulates the richness and diversity of the Capital City, which plays host to a number of Embassies. It brings to fore the many different cultures that make up the essence of the French language, and the true reason why we celebrate it.
